En el Blog de hoy, quiero enseñarte 3 datos financieros que debes conocer de tu negocio, sí o sí, sin importar si llevas adelante un emprendimiento pequeño o grande. Lo puedes aplicar para cualquier tipo de inversión que vayas a realizar.
Recuerdas que en otras ocasiones te he dicho que todo el resto de las estrategias del negocio, ya sea de ventas, marketing, administrativas, todo debe ir alineado con las necesidades financieras del negocio.
¿Por qué? Cuando una estrategia de marketing por ejemplo respeta las necesidades y objetivos financieros, disminuye muchísimo el riesgo de tu inversión.
Veamos 3 datos financieros esenciales que debes conocer de tu negocio, son estrategias recomendadas por Warren Buffet, una eminencia en el mundo de los negocios y la inversión.
Cuando hablamos de finanzas, probablemente el retorno de capital es la métrica más importante, cuando invertimos dinero en algo.
Nos hacemos preguntas como estas:
Dato #1. ¿Cómo se ha desempeñado el negocio? ¿Cuánto dinero ganaré al invertir esta cantidad de dinero?
Por lo general, entre más tiempo un negocio mantenga estable un retorno de capital, más atractiva es para el inversionista (tú y socios si es el caso), lo que se puede traducir a tener una sólida estrategia de servicio y retención de clientes.
Pero, lo ideal es que ese retorno de capital vaya en una tendencia alcista, quiere decir que cada vez vaya más y más en aumento.
¿Cuántos centavos te ganas por cada dólar o peso invertido? Esta es la pregunta que responde poder conocer tu ROC, retorno del capital o también conocido como ROI (return on investment).
Es esencial conocer estos datos antes de decidir invertir, sin embargo, si ya te echaste al agua, puedes hacerlo aún y así poder medir y contestarte también la pregunta.
El retorno de capital se calcula dividiendo los ingresos netos (todo el dinero que entra al negocio como resultado de las ventas) entre el efectivo invertido.
Un negocio que genere continuamente retorno sobre el capital invertido de 10 % a 15 % es muy buena para devolver el dinero invertido a su dueño o socios si es el caso.
Busca el ROC con valores altos. Mientras más alto sea el ROC, más capacidad tendrá el negocio para tomar el dinero y convertirlo en ganancias.
En el video, te voy a explicar de manera muy sencilla cómo sacar el retorno sobre capital utilizando dos ejemplos de negocio, un restaurante y un salón de belleza:
El ROC viene siendo un indicador que nos dice cómo ha sido el desempeño de nuestro negocio, te ayuda a tomar decisiones sobre como administrar tus recursos y los siguientes pasos que puedes dar, por ejemplo:
- El negocio, no puede generar más dinero que lo que indica el ROC, para generar más tendría que meterle más capital o subir sus ventas.
- Tomar en cuenta que, si vas a invertir más dinero o meterle más capital, implicará hacer cambios como aumentar la productividad de alguna manera para aumentar tus resultados, implica que tu negocio crezca.
- Recomiendo que estas decisiones las tomes con un plan bien definido, las acciones que hacemos por impulso en la gran mayoría de los casos no terminan bien.
Cómo pudiste ver en el video, la deuda que tiene el negocio ya sea a un banco, financiera, persona o hasta a ti mismo, sé que muchos de nosotros utilizamos nuestros ahorros para invertir, es importante que tomen en cuenta las deudas, debes considerarla al calcular la ganancia y debe resultar positivo al final de cada periodo.

Lo que me lleva al segundo dato financiero esencial;
Dato #2. ¿Cuánta deuda tiene el negocio?
Puedes responder esta pregunta dividiendo el total de pasivos (deuda) entre el capital invertido. Lo cual te dará la tasa de porcentaje de la deuda que usa el negocio para financiar sus activos en relación al capital invertido.
Ejemplo:
- Digamos que el negocio tiene un capital en efectivo de $15 mil y tiene $60 mil en deudas como préstamos.
- Tasa de deuda sobre capital = $60 mil / $15 mil = 4 o 400%
- Esto dice que el negocio tiene demasiada deuda, más de 4 veces por encima de su capital y por tanto se considera de alto riesgo.
- Supongamos que en lugar de tener $60 mil en deudas, tuviese solo $10 mil, su tasa de deuda sobre capital sería de 0.66 o 66%, lo que significa que el negocio ha tomado poca deuda y se puede considerar como bajo riesgo.
Básicamente entre más alta es esta tasa, el negocio será peor visto o evaluado, o sea más riesgoso para ti. O sea que por cada dólar que ingresa al negocio, este porcentaje solo será para pagar deudas y no se contará como retorno de tu inversión.
“Tu negocio no debe financiar su crecimiento con deuda”, al menos no tanta, ¡Ojo con esto!
En un mundo ideal para mí, la deuda no existiría, pero naturalmente existen por una razón, como expliqué en el retorno de capital más arriba, mientras las ganancias superen las tasas de interés que te cobran por esas deudas, el valor para ti como inversionista puede ser bueno, sin importar que el negocio sea de alto o bajo riesgo, pero mientras el riesgo sea más bajo, te sentirás con más confianza y tranquilidad emprendiendo o invirtiendo en el negocio.
Dato #3. ¿Cómo son mis márgenes de ganancias?
Todos nos metemos en un negocio para ganar, generar dinero, para ello por su puesto en primer lugar el negocio debe ser RENTABLE. Los ingresos brutos deben ser mayores a todos los gastos, que más…
Hay una regla que dice que el negocio debería crecer al menos 10% cada año. Hay otros que riden tan bien que superan el 20%, sin embargo esta tasa dependerá de tu tipo de negocio, la industria donde te encuentras, y otros factores que encierran el potencial de crecimiento de tu negocio.
Exiten dos tipos de margen de ganancia: bruta y neta.
- Margen de ganancias bruta: para calcularlo debes tener la diferencia entre tus ingresos totales o ventas de tus productos o servicios y los costos de la producción y venta de esos productos y servicios, llamado también como de ventas.
- Margen de ganancias neta: es la diferencia entre tus ingresos menos los gastos de las ventas totales. Incluye: impuestos, comisiones por ventas, marketing, publicidad, desarrollo de producto, producción, costos administrativos generales, costos administrativos, en fin todos los egresos NO relacionados directamente con la fabricación de tus productos.
Ejemplo margen de ganancia bruta:
Imaginemos que tienes una empresa que fabrica muebles, fabricar un mueble tiene un costo para tí de $300 y los vendes por $425.
- Paso 1: Restar Precio – Costo ($425 – $300) = $125 ganancia bruta o valor de la ganancia.
- Paso 2: La ganancia bruta / Costo ($125 / $300) = 0.41
- Paso 3: Pasarlo de decimal a porcentaje, multiplicando el resultado obtenido en el paso 2 y multiplicarlo por 100. 0.41 x 100 = 41% como margen de ganancia bruta.
En el caso de la ganancia neta, debes sumarles a los costos de producción todos los demás gastos paralelos al funcionamiento y operación del negocio.
Recuerda siempre que el margen de ganancia neta siempre será de un porcentaje menor al de la bruta por la suma de valores, y que brinda una perspectiva más completa de la salud de tu emprendimiento.
