Este es un extracto de unos de mis libros favoritos de Finanzas Personales, Cómo llego a fin de mes del bendecido autor Andrés Panasiuk.
Una de las formas más efectivas de darnos un aumento de salario es reduciendo nuestros gastos. El problema con nuestra capacidad de ahorrar muchas veces tiene que ver, con la forma en la que nos vemos a nosotros mismos. Algunas personas se verán como ahorradoras, porque tratan de guardar y de ahorrar cada centavito. Otros, por su lado, se ven como inversores. Este tipo de gente es la que regularmente habla de “invertir” en una computadora, en un auto nuevo, en un televisor o un equipo de sonido. Sin embargo, aquí hay una idea muy importante para compartir con estos inversores, y es que nunca podemos ahorrar gastando. Puede parecer algo ridículo decirlo, peor muchos inversores creen sinceramente en las campañas publicitarias que dicen Compre y ahorre o Compre ahora y ahorre después. Por eso quiero plasmarles la diferencia de dos conceptos súper importantes cuando hablamos de ahorro: concepto de deseo y el concepto de necesidad.
Antes de ello quisiera dejar claro que no hay nada de malo tener deseos y satisfacerlos. Sin embargo para llegar a fin de mes es vital tener claro cuáles son nuestras necesidades y cuáles son nuestros deseos. Por orden de prioridad primero debemos satisfacer nuestras necesidades, y luego satisfacer nuestros deseos siempre y cuando contemos con los recursos económicos para hacerlo. Según la Pirámide de Maslow, en su obra «Una teoría sobre la motivación humana», las necesidades básicas (fisiológicas) del ser humano, o sea las que realmente necesitamos para sobrevivir tales como: comida, vestimenta, un techo sobre nuestra cabeza, etc. No hablo solamente de cosas materiales, sino de todo aquello que verdaderamente estemos necesitando para nuestra supervivencia, por ejemplo: seguridad, salud, transporte, etc. Debemos buscar suplir estas necesidades a toda costa. Destinados a estos deben ir nuestros recursos financieros sin mayores dudas ni retrasos.
Los deseos, son cuando nos referimos a las compras que tenemos que hacer, todo aquello que no es una necesidad, es un deseo. A veces podemos llegar a confundir un deseo con una necesidad, por ejemplo cuando tenemos un deseo “de calidad”, es decir queremos satisfacer una necesidad con algo que tenga una calidad más alta, un deseo de calidad podría ser un buen pedazo de bistec en lugar de comerse una hamburguesa, sí, estamos claros que el alimento es una necesidad básica del cuerpo, pero en este caso uno está queriendo satisfacer esa necesidad con un producto más costoso y de más alta calidad.
Por lo tanto, antes de salir de compras es importante que tengamos en claro lo que es una necesidad y lo que es un deseo. En estos días la gente tiene la tendencia de decir: «necesito una computadora» o “necesitamos una cámara fotográfica”, cuando, en realidad, deberían estar diciendo: ¡cómo quisiera comprarme una computadora! o ¡cómo nos gustaría tener una cámara fotográfica! lamentablemente, en los últimos años hemos pasado a través de un proceso de condicionamiento para comenzar a hablar de «necesidades», en vez de reconocer nuestros deseos.
